Now SMURF’S are 3-D???

Why in the world are they being messed with?  Why have they been brought back?  I don’t get it.  And it’s with real people AND cartoon 3-D characters.  Ugh.  Who the hell ‘Green-Lit’ this project?  I mean, people are going to go and see it I guess, but I cannot for the life of me see how it’s actually going to be any good.  Then again, does that really matter in this day and age?  Crap movies are everywhere so I guess it’s no surprise.  Now watch, it will be the highest grossing movie ever and kick Harry Potter’s ass, lol.  Who knows.

The trailer:

So we have Doogie Howser and the chick from Glee, set in modern day NY, but then there’s a Gargamel (sp? I so don’t care) character that looks like he lives in some medieval castle or something.  Whatever.  What I want to know is, are you going to go and see it???

It’s Official, I have jumped into 2008!!!

Okay, not sure if that is in fact the correct year, I’m just speculating, but I am now officially a member of both, wait for it, LinkedIn AND Twitter!   Ashton Kutcher would be SO proud of me!  Hahahaha, I’m such a dinosaur!  I guess it was time and I am learning that quite a bit goes on in my industry when I’m at home in Guelph internet shopping and consuming large quantities of cruciferous vegetables (and Haagan Daaz) 😉 .  If this is how the kids are playing these days, then so be it, I can ‘play’ too (although I am finding it extremely confusing trying to figure out who wrote what on who’s tweet or re-tweet, lol, thanks for the lesson Tom! xo).  It’s seriously more than a little mind boggling, but I have been assured that I will get the hang of it and will be tweeting all of my random thoughts for everyone to read (oh joy!).  So here’s my twitter name (is that what they call it?), I got SUPER creative and went with @Sheri_Stroh .  I guess I could actually do something with Twitter on my blog, but I’m getting tired of trying to figure things out and just want to go and read my book, lol.  Maybe tomorrow *sigh*.  Anyway, I was thinking of keeping my ‘tweeting’ to beauty and fashion and work related news so that I hopefully don’t start totally annoying people with random insane thoughts (of which I have many).  Well, they’ll just be random thoughts about make-up (yes, there will be products recommendations!) and shoes (yes, there will be pics……if I can learn how to do that lol), but it might be fun.  Who knows.  I’m sick of being on the computer, so I’m off!

Yours in technology 😉 ,

New favourite yoga pants……even though I really don’t do yoga, lol…..

It’s because of my arm and the fact that I’ve had lymph nodes removed and you have to be careful when putting pressure on it blah blah blah.  So annoying.  I can do certain poses, but I just have to monitor my arm and go by how it’s feeling as ‘downward dog’ and ‘plank’ can sometimes trigger the dreaded lymphedema that I’m scared sh#tless of, lol.

Anyway, back to the pants that I’m loving.  They’re from Lulu Lemon (shocking!), so the fit is great, as is the thick material that really holds everything in (like my ass and thighs).  I’ve adore their ‘Wunder Under’ pants in full-length and cropped, but my thighs are rather….uhhhhh……we’ll say ‘muscular’, and sometimes I don’t want pants that are tight all the way down to my ankles (if I’m feeling as though I’m not having a super svelte day).  Enter the ‘MUDRA’ pant, which is apparently a version of their ‘Dance Pant’ (?) that they discontinued for some reason (they ALWAYS do this to items that I tend to like), and they are awesome!  They’re tight through the calves and then kick out a tiny bit, not a huge lame flare (sorry ladies, I cannot stand that, it makes my short legs look like tree trunks), so I guess they’re basically straight-leg.  Essentially, they’re what Audrey Hepburn would wear if she was still alive and practising yoga, lol.  That’s not to say I wear them out as regular black pants, uhhh no, that just does not happen, but for exercising, they rock!

Here they are on some insanely fit woman who apparently speed skates or cycles 40 miles a day (*note: I do not look like this in them, lol).

And here are a full-length version that I picked up earlier this year and love as they “balance out my legs” 😉

And while I’m having a LLL moment, can I tell you about a sports bra of theirs that has ‘saved my life’ ?!  A tad dramatic?  I guess I should say that they’ve ‘changed my life’ then, and while I’ve never been and never will be a bra expert, and I highly doubt that anyone’s going to go out buying any based on my recommendations, they have just made life so much easier ‘post BC’.  You see, it’s comfortable, which is a huge bonus, and while this will sound very strange I’m sure, I’m happy that it actually, here goes, kind of flattens my left side down so that I don’t worry about wearing a form.  This way I don’t have to bother with the stupid piece of crap, totally lame and huge and extremely uncomfortable, form that I have.  Hate that thing, it’s just not me, I feel better without it.  Of course they are only around for a limited time, kinda like how ‘Easter Cream Eggs’ were until Cadbury finally got a clue to keep them around all the time (hate those things, sorry Renata!), so I have stocked up on them.  I’m sure they’ll come out with something similar anyway, so I probably don’t have to worry, and I’m hoping that they come out with one that doesn’t only have a racer-back, as that’s not always attractive, but whatever, I like them.  A little while ago when I was at their Yorkdale store, the one sales girl was talking to me about them and asked why I liked them so much and I told her and said they could recommend them to post-mastectomy patients.  She was so cute, she was like: “Umm, oh, do people WANT to look like that?”.  HAHAHAHAHA!  I realize I may be a minority in this I guess, but that’s cool, it’s not like I went from being a double D or anything like that.  Well, now that I’ve made you all feel uneasy, I’m off to bed! 😉

Night!!!

The Paleo diet and a great blog for recipes

I can already hear the groaning: “Paleo diet? What nonsense is this?”.  To that I say: I don’t know actually, I haven’t really looked all that much into it, but I’ve found a blog that has some really great recipes that are quite delicious.  I mean, I know the premise of the diet, it’s definitely for meat eaters, and it stays away from grains for the most part, but I just modify the recipe to suit us anyway (leave out meat, add grains if so desired).  The reason I’m extolling the virtues of this blog is due to the fact that the food this woman is making, is not only tasty, REAL, and nutritious, but super easy.  Here’s the blog addy and a few examples of dishes I have made that have gone over extremely well with both Darren and I and our friends and families.

http://www.everydaypaleo.com

This salad is insane!  The leeks totally make it and you can just leave out the bacon if you don’t want it (so much for ‘paleo’ haha! but I’ve done it).

Warm Spinach and Sweet Potato Salad

Posted on May 8, 2011 by Sarah

This salad was the result of a combined effort by John and myself.  It might sound silly but since John and I started eating paleo together and as often as we can, cooking together, we have added another dimension to our relationship that we did not even know existed.  There’s something really cool about creating food as a couple and although most of my time in the kitchen is spent with the kids, I look forward to the moments that I spend with my husband even more.  I keep him from burning stuff and he keeps me creative; like with this salad, John pulled various things that we had on hand out of the fridge and started cooking while I ran behind making sure it all tasted good (and putting out any potential fires).  John grilled a steak to have with the salad but next time I make this recipe I’ll probably add chicken to the salad to make it a meal all on it’s own.

Here’s the recipe!

Warm Spinach and Sweet Potato Salad

3 cups peeled and diced sweet potatoes

1 tbsp coconut oil

1 apple diced

8 strips of bacon, diced

2 leeks, thinly sliced

6 oz of fresh baby spinach

Handful of sliced almonds for garnish

Dressing

¼ cup olive oil

1 tbsp apple cider vinegar

1 tsp spicy brown mustard (from Trader Joe’s)

Fresh ground black pepper to taste

1 tbsp of dried basil

Pinch of cayenne pepper

Preheat your oven to 400.  Toss the diced sweet potatoes with the coconut oil and spread evenly on a baking sheet.  Bake in your preheated oven for 20 minutes.  While the sweet potatoes are baking, cook the diced bacon in a large skillet.  Once the bacon is crispy, add the sliced leeks in with the bacon and saute for another 4-5 minutes.  Put your spinach in a large salad bowl and add the bacon and leek mixture. Toss well, letting the warm bacon wilt the spinach.  Add the apples and sweet potatoes to the salad and toss together.  In a separate bowl whisk together the salad dressing ingredients.  Pour over the salad, mix well and garnish with the sliced almonds.

Enjoy!

So this is what it has come to…..

I love jeans, I have way too many pairs of them, but it’s finally gone too far.  I realize that they are not far off from ‘jeggings’ (that’s for jean leggings people!) that I own, but these are some of the FUGLIEST ‘ pants’ I’ve seen and I don’t see how they can flatter anyone.  I bring you………..PAJAMA JEANS:

Read some of the comments below the video if you actually go to youtube, they’re spot on: if your jeans are so tight that they leave marks and are uncomfortable…….well, maybe you should just go UP a size and not wear pajama’s out of the damn house!  Another comment that I loved: “Holy sh#t, a free grey crewneck T!”, hahahaha!  Do we really need a clothing item that totally showcases how lazy we really are (I’m guilty)…….in public???  I do not doubt they are extremely comfortable and all, I mean, they have a Dorma-Soft lining!!! (whatever that is), but do they really need to be called the name that they are being called???  I can just see the buffet tables now……………..Ahhhhhhhh, thanks Pajama Jeans, for making 3rds a comfortable reality.

Sun care: Sunscreens and foods that help to protect.

I used to wear sunscreen every day, all the time, didn’t matter where I was going or how short the length of time was I was actually going to be exposed to the dreaded UV rays, I was deathly afraid of………no, not cancer so much……well kind of, a little bit (oh the irony), but AGING!  Nowadays?  I use it….sparingly…..when I really need it, that is.  I am no longer afraid of aging (hell, I’m already in Menopause for the love of god, lol) and while I have some great face and body sunscreens that I really like (yup, they’re all physical blockers, I can’t bring myself to use the chemicals now, even though physical ones tend to be a tad white-ish), I would rather go without most days.  Of course this depends on where I am and what I’m doing and of course I was a complete idiot today when Darren and I went to the Aberfoyle antique market and I forgot about the back of my neck and top of my back (so stupid!), but I consider it vitamin D-ing.  I take a D supplement (surprise!) and that’s all fine, but a bit of sunshine is better, so I would rather sit out for 15-20 minutes and get it naturally if I can (if I’m outside for longer, I’ll apply sunscreen or at least seek shade).  Some will agree with me, some won’t, and some will point out that due to my previous BC, I have to be careful about skin cancer now.  I know, and to each they’re own, but I can’t help but think of how vitamin D deficient I must have been for years (no, not just because of sunscreen application, there are other factors of course).  Wish I had had a baseline of blood-work done around the time of my diagnoses, before I met my naturopath and started supplementation .  Actually, who knows, maybe they did test my blood and have the results and just never went over them with me, will have to check that out.

Anyway, here is a post from a skincare lines blog that I found interesting and helpful.  Sophyto is a brand of organic skincare that I have used in the past and I visit their blog every once in a while even though I don’t really use their products anymore.  No, I don’t think I can just sit out in the sun, eat a watermelon and dark chocolate bar, and not burn, but it’s good to know there are foods out there that can add to your SPF protection.

SPF alone won’t protect you from this summer’s soaring UV index. So what can you do? Our Bioesthetician Ishtar has some suggestions

According to the experts, the UV Index is expected to be higher than usual this summer, which means that applying your usual SPF sunscreen won’t be enough to shield your skin from the detrimental effects of radiation.

So what can you do?

  • Invest in a good fresh high-factor SPF of 15+. SPF can lose its potency and ideally needs replacing each year. Apply 1 ounce (2 tbs) of sunscreen to dry skin – all over – 30 minutes before going outside. Re-apply every 2 hours, or immediately after swimming or excessive sweating. Beware of ingredients such as PABA and its derivatives (carcinogenic), benzophenone and its derivatives (suspected photo-carcinogens), as well as nano and micro particles (due to their size they can enter the bloodstream and invade the body’s natural defense systems as well as be more reactive and toxic than larger sized particles).
  • Wear protective clothes, such as a broad-brimmed hat and sunglasses (the eyes are not capable of generating natural defense mechanisms against UV radiation like the skin does).
  • Even if the weather is overcast, use sunscreen: UVA A and UVA B can still reach human skin through cloud.
  • Seek the shade, especially during the peak hours (between 10am and 4pm).

But, there are a few things you can do to boost your sun protection before you slap on the sunscreen, too – like eat chocolate! No, seriously…!

Antioxidants help to protect us against UV radiation, so eating antioxidant-rich foods can really boost your skin’s natural defences:

  • Cocoa (dark chocolate): contains 4 times as many phenols and catechins (antioxidants) as tea. These antioxidants protect our skin from sunburn and skin cancer. Milk should not be added to the chocolate as it interferes with the absorption of its antioxidants. Recommended dose: 2 ounces of dark chocolate daily.
  • Green and black teas: rich in polyphenols (antioxidants) – one of the most powerful botanical antioxidants known today. They offer unrivaled action against free radical exposure which is responsible for 80% of skin aging and can boost your skin’s antioxidant protection from the inside out. According to a study, drinking two or more cups of either black or green tea reduces the risk of developing squamous cell skin cancer by 30%.
  • Microalgaeeg.chlorella and spirulina, contain a carotenoid called Astaxanthin, which is 550 times more powerful than Vitamin E, and it has been shown to protect the skin and eyes against Ultraviolet radiation.
  • Carotenoids: are antioxidants which reduce the negative effects of UVB radiation. Carotenes are deoxygenated carotenoid compounds which provide pigment to fruits and vegetables. This pigment is used by plants as sunscreen and can activate melanin. Foods containing high concentrations of carotenes are: apricots, papaya, mango, carrots, sweet potatoes and beets.
  • Lycopene: is a red carotenoid which protects the skin against sunburn and skin cancer (has an SPF of about 3). Foods high in lycopene include watermelon, tomatoes, papaya, pink guava, red bell peppers and pink grapefruit.Watermelon is especially rich in lycopene, it contains 40% more lycopene than tomatoes.
  • Pomegranates: contain powerful polyphenol compounds such as catechins and anthocyanins (antioxidants) which strengthen the skin’s upper layers, thereby increasing its resistance to harmful UV rays.
  • Tocotrienolsare a group of compounds which belong to the Vitamin E family. They are 30-60 times more powerful than tocopherols thus, they neutralize free radical activity at a faster rate. Tocotrienols are capable of reducing/absorbing penetration of UV radiation. Barley, rye, oats, annatto oil, rice bran oil and palm oil are natural, rich sources of tocotrienols.
  • Vitamin C: prevents premature aging and skin cancer by warding off free radicals. The best natural sources of Vitamin C are acerola cherry, rose hip, berries, guava, kiwi, papaya and all citrus fruits.
  • Vitamin D: it protects against many types of cancer, including skin cancer. Supplementation is advisable for people who live in areas with long winters and/or people who do not sunbathe.
  • Broccoli: has anti-cancerous effects and is rich in an antioxidant called sulphoraphane. Research shows that sulphoraphane helps body cells to protect themselves against the ravages of UV radiation.
  • Green leafy vegetables: according to a study, spinach, kale and swiss chard may reduce risk of squamous cell skin cancer by 50 percent.
  • Omega 3 fatty acids: can reduce inflammation, protect your skin from sunburn and melanoma (a deadly form of skin cancer). Salmon, sardines, herring, mackerel, algae/seaweed, green leafy vegetables, flax, hemp and chia seeds are rich sources of Omega 3 fatty acids.
  • Orange peels: 1 tsp. per week reduces the risk of squamous cell skin cancer.
  • Histidinerich foodsstimulate healthy production of urocanic acid (a natural photo-protectant). Although adult humans produce this amino acid, it is believed that natural supplies run short easily. Histidine can be found in: meat, dairy products and grains such as rice, wheat and rye.
  • Water: keeping your skin hydrated encourages a healthy NMF (natural moisture factor) which in turn, protects your skin from environmental factors. It is also important to drink plenty of fluids after sun exposure to prevent dehydration.

And, last but not least, there are a couple of Sophyto products that should be in your sun-protection regime as well…

  • Anti Aging Antioxidant Serum: formulated with polyphenol extracts derived from apples, grapes, olive leaf, green and white tea. Combine this with your sunscreen to boost antioxidant protection within the epidermis.
  • Omega Daily Moisturizer: rich in vegetable Omega 3 fatty acids, which reduce inflammation, protect your skin and keep it supple. It also contains biological filters such as shea butter and raspberry seed oil. Raspberry seed oil offers the skin broad spectrum protection from damaging UVA and UVB rays. The SPF of red raspberry seed oil has been found to be equal to that of titanium dioxide and has been rated to have an SPF as high as 28-50!
  • Tocotrienol Super Skin Concentrate: rich in 100% pure alpha, beta, gamma and delta Vitamin E, this luscious, powerful synergy of organic fruit oils and CoQ10 nourishes and protect while helping repair UV damaged and environmentally stressed skin.

Interesting article………that doesn’t shock me.

Please take a minute to read the below link if you have time, it’s very eye-opening, but like I said, not really all that surprising.

Scientists to Chemical Regulators: Stop Ignoring Boobs

A new set of reports shows that federal policy on chemicals testing neglects breast health.

By Florence WilliamsPosted Monday, June 27, 2011, at 2:45 PM ET

Breast health. Click image to expand.Breast-cancer risk may be affected early in developmentThe last quarter of a century has taught science some newfangled things about breasts. For one thing, they appear to be showing up earlier in young girls, with possible consequences for breast cancer later on. For another, the way they grow and develop varies from woman to woman, and—if lab animals are any indication—normal exposures to commercial chemicals can alter that process. The growing human breast is also more vulnerable than we thought. Data from atomic-bomb survivors in Japan show that it was adolescents—not grown women—near the explosions who were most likely to develop breast cancer in later years. Since then, there’s been similar data for girls who were exposed to medical X-rays or radiation therapy, as well as research showing that the pesticide DDT, now banned but pervasive in the 1950s and 1960s, is associated with a higher risk of breast cancer in women exposed as girls.

So it may come as a surprise that the federal agencies responsible for public health don’t routinely take childhood exposures into account when testing whether commercial chemicals cause mammary tumors. In fact, in many lab-animal tests, they don’t bother to look at the mammary gland at all. Breast cancer may be the No. 1 killer of middle-aged women in the United States, but as a new set of reports makes clear, the breast is a major blind spot in federal chemical-safety policy. “They just throw the mammary glands in the trash can,” says Ruthann Rudel, research director with the nonprofit Silent Spring Institute and lead author of one of the papers, a review of the latest science on mammary gland development and toxic exposures.

The reports, published last week in the journal Environmental Health Perspectives, grew out ofa 2009 workshop on mammary gland risk assessment, which involved scientists from federal and international agencies as well as independent groups. Breast cancer is just one of the areas federal agencies neglect, the reports show, along with health issues surrounding lactation and the timing of breast development in puberty. “Few chemicals coming into the marketplace are evaluated for these effects,” state Rudel and her co-authors.

But blowing off these tests is a big mistake. The mammary gland—the breast’s intricate milk-making structure—is uniquely sensitive to toxic chemicals, says Suzanne Fenton, a reproductive endocrinologist with the National Toxicology Program of the National Institutes of Health, and a co-author of the science review. In both rodents and humans, it starts to develop in the fetus, undergoes a colossal growth spurt at puberty, and doesn’t fully develop until late pregnancy. During these times, its cells appear particularly vulnerable to carcinogens and other organ-altering substances. While lab rats and mice aren’t perfect proxies for humans, their mammary glands undergo similar development patterns under similar hormonal influences, says Fenton.

When it comes to breast health, the reports fault the primary federal body responsible for regulating commercial chemicals, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, on several fronts. First, in its cancer tests that do assess mammary glands, lab animals are typically dosed with the chemicals in question as adults, past the sensitive age when toxins may cause critical damage to the organ. Second, in other tests that use younger animals, the mammary glands are not examined at all, meaning the tests could be missing signs of poor functioning and development. This is important because chemicals may affect both breastfeeding ability and the timing of puberty, which in turn influences breast-cancer risk. Finally, the EPA’s testing protocols don’t consistently examine the male mammary gland, which also appears to be sensitive to toxins.

These lapses come on top of the already lame reality that the EPA maintains toxicity data on just 1 percent of the 83,000 chemicals in use in this country. Most chemicals enter the market with no health testing at all. In 2009, the agency finally implemented a much-needed new program that screens chemicals for subtle effects on hormone systems. (Previously, the agency only checked to see whether chemicals caused more obvious problems, like tumors, sickness, or death.) Called the Endocrine Disruptor Screening Program, it has begun requiring manufacturers to test pesticides (and only pesticides, so far). These comprehensive tests look for widespread effects in rodent bodies, including on the brain, internal organs, and genitals—but not on mammary glands. Oops. “There are really no other major gaps [in those tests],” says Fenton.

“I wish I could understand the failure of logic in not testing mammary glands,” says Jeanne Rizzo, director of the Breast Cancer Fund, a California-based nonprofit. But she says she’s heartened that the discussion is even on the table. “Ten years ago, when we said we need to look at the environment and we need to look at prevention, people thought we were nuts.”

It’s becoming increasingly clear, though, that mammary glands belong on a slide and not in the dumpster. Recent studies show that some pesticides, pharmaceuticals, and plastic additives appear to change when and how the mammary gland develops. Even low doses, close to what average Americans are exposed to currently, have been linked to altered development, cell growth, and gene expression in animal mammary glands. The chemicals include the notorious baby-bottle chemical bisphenol A, dioxin (a by-product from burning plastic and a common food contaminant), phthalates (plastic additives), atrazine (a top-selling herbicide in the United States, now banned in Europe), flame retardants, and stain repellants. PFOA, a common chemical used to make Teflon, appears to delay puberty in animal pups and reduce the size of the mammary gland, while chemicals that mimic estrogen may accelerate puberty.

The good news is that the mounting data on the sensitivity of breast cells has caught the attention of scientists within state and federal government. Some are calling for reform. “There’s a growing body of animal evidence and sporadic human evidence that things we’re exposed to across a lifetime can cause breast cancer,” says Marion Kavanaugh-Lynch, director of California’s Breast Cancer Research Program, a governmental grant-making organization that helped fund the 2009 workshop with proceeds from the state’s cigarette tax. “If we can identify these chemicals now, we can more easily avoid them,” she says.

The question is whether, and how fast, regulatory agencies can update their toxicity protocols. New tests have to be proven effective and then standardized across numerous labs. In a victory for breast-cancer advocates, the National Toxicology Program, under pressure from its own scientists, is actively rewriting its testing guidelines to look more carefully at mammary glands. But this is only a partial victory, as the NTP does not have the authority to regulate chemicals (it’s a research and advisory body), and the agency tests only about six to eight substances per year.

The NTP’s Fenton is a big fan of a new testing procedure, the gruesome-sounding “whole mount,” a way of preparing dissected rodent tissue to look for changes both subtle and overt. A rodent’s fourth or fifth mammary glands—those near the stomach—are removed, flattened, stained, and mounted flat to a slide, where they can be carefully examined for changes in cells or structures. Soon, Fenton hopes, every government lab will use it. If approved, NTP’s guidelines would also require that certain tests include doses of chemicals both in-the-womb and around the time of puberty.

The EPA is watching closely to see if and how the NTP’s new tests pass political and scientific muster. So is the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development, which guides chemicals testing in Europe. With added data from mammary glands, policymakers could have more reasons to keep unsafe substances off the market. If your breasts won’t benefit, your daughters’ just might.

HAPPY “SURGER-VERSARY” TO ME!!!!

I can’t believe I almost forgot, today is the day that it is officially 1 whole year since my surgery!  Can’t get over how fast a year has gone by, holy s@#t!  Typical me totally forgot my ‘Cancer-versary’ which I guess is June 2nd as that’s when the biopsy results came in.  Hmmmm, will have to get myself a gift (or two!) for this momentous occasion.  Can’t wait for ‘Fertili-versary’, ‘Chemo-versary’, and ‘Radi-versary’!  Just kidding, I don’t think I need to be THAT festive, lol.

Anyway, Happy Anniversary to me!!!!

Blood Results: I’m pretty healthy!!!

A little while back I had blood work done to see how everything was ‘working’ post chemo, you know, to see what damage it had done to my body and it’s inner workings.  Well, I’m happy to say, well, mostly happy, that all of my levels are pretty good and the few that are ‘out of range’, either being too high or too low, are only minimally so.  Yay!  Of course I had to go over everything with my ND since when my results came in, my doctor’s office called to let me know I could come and pick them up.  Uh, okay, I’ll just come and get them and learn how to ‘read’ them myself.  I honestly can’t remember if I told her I was going to my ND to go through it all or not, so I shouldn’t be catty about it, lol.  My liver enzymes are good, as is my kidney function, vit B12 is a little low (another supplement to add!), bad cholesterol a tiny bit high, but my good to bad ratio is optimal and just fine so I’ve been told not to worry about it.  My white blood count is still slightly low, but luckily I’ve been able to stave off any sickness (except Cancer, ha!) and I don’t think it’s all that unlikely to have low counts after your body is pumped full of cancer killing drugs anyway, even though it was months ago (although, I guess combined with rads, it wasn’t all that long ago really).  Something to do with my iron is slightly out of sorts, but nothing to go crazy over either.  I guess what I’m saying, is that post chemo and radiation, my body is doing pretty good overall.  Well, other than the tendonitis (mildly sticking around) and a previous back problem that has reared it’s ugly head again now that I’m back to commuting and working.  Nothing a bit of physio/acupuncture/massage can’t help.  Which is what I’ve been spending my money on these days, lol.  Well, that and summer shoes and coloured jeans which I am highly addicted to at the moment (although I did get my first pair of red jeans in grade 11, Levi’s 501’s, men’s, from Mark’s Work Wearhouse, that I used to wear with my cowboy boots and a denim button down…………..omg, I must have looked awesome……..the boots are long gone, but I still have an affinity for denim shirts).

Anyway, that was totally off topic, so I’ll get back to my back.  It’s driving me nuts!  Usually when it acts up, I can wait it out or get 1 massage and it’s fine………well, fine until it comes back, that is.  Now, I am getting older and who knows, maybe chemo has messed with my ‘healing’ mechanism and it’s just going to take longer to treat now.  Regardless, I have made the decision to finally REALLY take care of this issue (that’s been around for almost 6 years!) and REALLY get it treated and sorted out (something my friend Julie, an RMT, has been telling me to do for, ohhhhhh, about 6 years!).  So after 3 amazingly painful and not-so-relaxing massages (I love how people are jealous when I tell them I’m going for a massage, seriously, you would NOT enjoy this), it’s still bugging me.  I can function, but it’s never been like this and I think I’m going to have to start trying acupuncture on it and getting myself to my chiropractor asap.  Oh well, that’s life, it’s only my back……..lol.

My arm is literally a (mild) pain.  I can’t actually tell if it’s the tendonitis still lurking around or if it’s just a bit of nerve damage that chemo and rads has aggravated.  Work doesn’t help, and neither does sitting at a computer and typing, but what am I supposed to do, sit around and watch DVD’s all day???  Uhhhhhh……………Okay!!!!!  Heehee!  Whatever it is, it’s just annoying and I wish it would go away.

Other than that, all is good, I’m keeping busy and feeling healthy, but need to get back to the gym to do the classes that I had become addicted to (that I have missed due to my arm and back).  Oh, and I don’t think I can blame the classes for any of this since everything happened a week or two after stopping them due to work and scheduling.  I will be going to my first one tomorrow morning and totally expect to be super lame and panting about 10 minutes in, lol.  Will let you know how it goes.

XO

I’ve been a BAD updater!

Sorry for the lack of posts lately, I’ve been busy……..and a little lazy….which doesn’t really help, lol.  Quick update (and I’ll get into more detail in a bit….if needed):

~ My blood work came back pretty good and not totally out of whack like I thought it would.  There were a few things that were out of range, but I gave it all to my ND who I will be meeting with to discuss the results with when she returns home from her honeymoon next week.

~ I have tendonitis again in my right elbow and it’s a little swollen and super annoying.  It’s not keeping me from working, but it is a huge pain in the ass and I have no clue how it happened.  Could be the tamoxifen weakening an already weak area???  Although I was going to the gym and having NO problems at all with it, was just driving one day last week and bent my arm and it felt really tight all the way from my wrist to my bicep.  Weird.  Am now going to physio….again……for ultra-sound and accupuncture.  Fun!!!

~ I got a new car.  Well, it was actually a few months ago, but I think I forgot to mention it.  My lease was up on my crappy (overrated) Prius and I am now the proud leaser….leasee??? whatever, of a VW Jetta which I am loving!!!!  Oh trunk space, I missed you SO much!  And a gas tank that fills to the top…..what a concept!!!

Anyway, must get going, working today, but will have more of an update soon! (and more favourite products…Dad, I know you’re excited!!!!)
